A concise chronology of biblical history

In the present note, I consider the general picture painted by the Bible’s chronological data-points, and then zoom in on a few key dates and details. In all, I make three distinct claims. First, that the ‘year-stamps’ inherent in the text of Scripture form a plausible pattern. Second, that the text of Scripture contains traces/memories of a consistently-reckoned Jubilee cycle. And, third, that the vast majority of the ‘day-stamps’ recorded in Scripture are closely connected with the priesthood. Keywords: Biblical chronology, Jubilee cycles, Sabbatical years, priestly texts, Ezekiel, time-stamps, Judges. Date: May 2020.

The Bible timeline, the Jewish calendar, and the historical timeline have significant differences. I submit these time lines should reconcile. This paper reconciles those differences.

Dating the Biblical Chronology

The transmission of many historical and chronological data (reigns, lifetimes, long periods, etc.) as well as many proper names, is necessarily flawed, unless one believing in an (unlikely) scribes infallibility. Thus, ancient texts, that are preserved in more than one copy, have been compared to determine how much variation occurs between manuscripts. This kind of study showed that the most stable texts surveyed are those containing ritual instructions, which have led, for example, to the exact transmission of the Torah in the late Second Temple period. The accuracy of the transmission of the text can be checked owing to the accuracy of its chronology and through the comparison between the sum of the intermediate values and the total value indicated in the text. Textual criticism now favours an anteriority of the Septuagint text Vorlage (H*) on the proto-Masoretic which comes from an overhaul of this Vorlage, including chronological data from the text of Genesis. According to the reconstruction of chronological data, Jewish corrections of the Hebrew text (preserved in the LXX) were performed in two steps: after the onset of the Book of Jubilees (c. -160) durations in Genesis 5:3-31 were reduced by 100 years and were adopted by a part of the Jews, as Eupolemus and by the Samaritans, and afterward, at the Synod of Yabneh (c. 90 CE), durations in Genesis 11:10-26 were also reduced by 100 years and were canonized by the rabbis (Pharisees). There was no dispute since the priests (Sadducees) no longer existed, as well as scrolls of the temple (except some of them which has been retrieved by Josephus thanks to emperor Titus in 70 CE). The biblical and Sumerian accounts of the Deluge are very similar (which occurred in year 600 of Noah or Ziusudra) and suppose a dating 3170 BCE according to the Septuagint. Biblical chronology from Abraham (2038-1863) can be reconstituted starting from the Masoretic data, which are more reliable than those from the Septuagint for this period 2038-517. By convenience the total period was cut out in four periods link to the Patriarchs (2038-1493), the Judges (1493-1097), the Kings (1097-517) and the Second Temple (517 BCE to 133 CE).

Learn more about the chronological order of major biblical and significant extra-biblical events in world history. I compared several timelines and combined the findings into one monumental timeline that intends to come as close as possible to the real dates. The previous study on the Genealogies provides the precise starting point for human history. Methodology & Overview of Works: www.fitforfaith.ca/overview | Sources are linked within the PDF document. Biblical Calendars and Christian and Rabbinic Dates of Redemption.docx
Antony M I C H A E L Hylton
The Calendars used in Biblical times are vitally important in helping us understand the Bible and biblical events and eschatology. In Genesis it is stated that the sun, moon and stars were given for sign (otot) and for appointed times (moadim). The knowledge of the calendars and chronologies of the biblical period is very important for our dating of biblical events and their position relative to the societies’ contemporary with the Bible. This project is a short investigation into chronology and calendars. The Rabbis had many many dattings for the coming of Messiah and the saints who follow the New Testament also made many different prediction. This paper looks at calendars from the Gezer Calendars, the Egyptian, Babylonians, Sumerian and the Biblical Jubilee systems. The work is based out of the studies of Eugene Faulstich and his computerised bibilical calendars systems including the Jubilees and the shmittot as part of his calendar calcution. The study included informal transliterations of Hebrew, Babylonian and other calendar terms. It suggests that a calendar for Christians should be based on the resurrection of Jesus Christ rather than his birth, because this was the most defining feature of his ministry. Biblical Chronology Arkansas notes completed not revised
Theodore Turner
These are the notes for three presentations given on October 22-21, 2014 at Lambert Church in Bismark Arkansas for the fall camp-meeting for Future for America. 1 In Part 1, I compare the chronology of Ussher and Miller with the many chronological statements in the writings of Ellen White. The purpose here is to establish the fact that Ellen White does not follow either chronology but has a chronology that places the creation earlier than Ussher but later than Miller. In Part 2, I address the chronology of the various periods of seventy years and their connexion to the three decrees. In the biblical chronology, this is the area I have spent the most time researching, since it is fundamental to the understanding of the prophetic periods. In Part 3, I present my early work which later develops into the structure of prophetic chronology. Specifically, I begin to recognise the structures underlying the chronology of the prophetic periods and the connexions between the events. Of greatest interest to the reader would be the 666 years from Jehoiachin's captivity to the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD, and my nascent understanding of the 390 years of Ezekiel 4:4-6. At that time, I had not worked out the earlier chronology and was struggling to pin down the year of creation. Initially, I had a year for the creation of the world at 4037 BC. This was later revised in 2016 to be the fall of 4046 BC. BIBLICAL CHRONOLOGY AND ELLEN WHITE-1 OVERVIEW OF LECTURES In these three lectures on biblical chronology, I am presenting research that confirms the chronology upon which our prophetic message was founded. Of specific interest are the dates related to the prophetic periods, including the seven times of Leviticus 26. In the first lecture I will deal with an overview of the various chronologies that were used by Adventists, specifically, Ussher's, Miller's and Ellen White's. In the second lecture I will give evidence that supports the chronology of the seven times and show how the 70 year captivity and deliverance of literal Israel is tied to the events of Millerite and Adventist history. In the third lecture will present a brief summary of the numerical connexions between the various time prophecies and dates of history. These "cycles of sevens" show God's attention to detail. They also demonstrate that the events of history (and our personal lives) are not random and are guided by a loving hand.
